Escaping Reality

I’ve been journeying down the path of inevitable sobriety for over a year now. I use the term inevitable because I believe I was destined to become an addict thus destined for recovery. Through my ventures, as I’ve discussed in earlier writings, I’ve endured hospital stays, countless court hours, money spent of sheer ignorance, jail, homelessness, rehab. Blah blah blah.

The list seems endless for all the endeavors I have been through and it has taken me a long time to realize I wasn’t alone. Through 12-step programs and rehabilitation meetings I have learned a plethora of tactics to deal with my disease.

Being a “post-emo” product I have a keen interest in specific music and movies. From documentaries to the sappy songs of the past and present, I immerse myself into the lives of lyrics and scenes that pose detrimental to my sobriety. I have asked social media for suggestions on their outlets from this field. Compiling a list, I have noted repetitive songs, bands and movies that speak most to the addict.

Beginning with my top favorites I will cover the movie scene first. If you are struggling with the thought of recovery or of seasoned sobriety these movies show both the negative reality of the disease, hope and gratitude.
